DIGITIZATION OF 14 CULTURAL HERITAGE ASSETS IN CASTILLA Y LEON 1024 1024 info@bim6d.es

The Government of Castilla y Leon in Spain selects the joint venture BIM6D + INGENIEROS ASESORES to digitize fourteen Cultural Heritage Assets.

Author: Fernando Morales

The main objective of this project is to provide the Directorate-General of Cultural Heritage (DGPC) with BIM and 3D digital models containing accurate and structured information to support asset management of 14 Cultural Heritage Sites (BIC) distributed across Castilla y León. This digitalization process will be accompanied by a network of sensors (environmental, structural, energy monitoring) that will be integrated into the Junta’s Smart Data Management Platform, in alignment with the RETECH program strategy and the “Territorio Rural Inteligente” initiative.

Key benefits for the Regional Government of Castilla y León:

Preventive conservation and smart maintenance
Thanks to the deployed sensor network and the predictive analytics developed by UP Intelligence, the Junta will be able to anticipate structural issues and plan preventive maintenance in a non-invasive manner, extending the useful life of heritage assets while reducing long-term costs.

Digital heritage management
With interoperable BIM models enriched with real-time data, the Junta will have a standardized digital foundation across all sites, allowing for more efficient, consistent, and transparent operations, renovations, and future uses.

Advanced visualization platform: POWERBIM
The 3D models, sensor data, and maintenance, energy, or visitor KPIs will be accessible in real-time through POWERBIM, enabling decision-makers to visualize, analyze, and act in a unified digital environment — all within the framework of the heritage digital twin.

Cultural dissemination and universal accessibility
By leveraging Metaverse technologies through META4BIM, we propose to develop immersive, multi-user virtual tours (via VR, web, or PC) with AI-based conversational assistants. This will allow people from all over the world to virtually visit sites such as the Castillo de la Mota or the Villa Romana de Orpheus, making Castilla y León’s heritage accessible to international audiences, educational institutions, and people with reduced mobility.

Standardization and scalability.
The project introduces a replicable methodology (BEP, GuBIMClass classification, IoT integration and Autodesk Construction Cloud as CDE) that will serve as a reference for future heritage digitization projects and can be scaled to other cultural heritage sites in the region.

The assets to be digitized are:

Archaeological Sites (6):
• Campamento Romano de Petavonium (Zamora)
• Ciudad y yacimiento romano “El Alba” (Villalazán, Zamora)
• Domus Romana “Las Pedreiras de Lago” (Carucedo, León)
• Villa Romana de Orfeo (Camarzana de Tera, Zamora)
• Yacimiento Arqueológico de Tiermes (Montejo de Tiermes, Soria)
• Ruinas del Monasterio de Santa María de Moreruela (Granja de Moreruela, Zamora)

Historical and Cultural Sites (8):
• Castillo de la Mota (Medina del Campo, Valladolid)
• El Bosque de Béjar (Salamanca)
• Palacio del Licenciado Butrón (Valladolid)
• Palacio Quintanar (Segovia)
• Palacio de San Martín o Enrique IV (Segovia)
• Palacio de Avellaneda (Peñaranda de Duero, Burgos)
• Aula Arqueológica de Las Médulas (Carucedo, León)
• Centro de Visitantes y Sitio de Huellas de Dinosaurios de Fuentesalvo (Villar del Río, Soria)

For this challenge, which will undoubtedly become a national and international benchmark in heritage digitization, the Board has awarded the contract to the joint venture formed by BIM6D Consulting & Performance and Ingenieros Asesores, with expert collaboration from UP Intelligence.

This major project confirms BIM6D‘s commitment to the digital transformation of heritage, in line with other landmark projects such as the digitization of the Reina Sofía Museum‘s facilities, the digital twin of the Velázquez Palace, and the digitization, digital twin, and immersive experiences for the Hospital de Sant Pau.
